If you love the outdoors, you’ll love Pacifica. The big town with a small feel has an abundance of park land for hiking and biking, surf for all levels and a ton of background for the history buff.
Pacifica was incorporated in 1957 when the nine districts became one. The Pacifica Chamber of Commerce has a great timeline of the events that shape Pacifica.
Although the city has a population of over 40,000 people, because of its geography it has the feel of a small town.
The town was one of several stops along the Ocean Shore Railroad bringing travelers from San Francisco to the coastal vacation spot of Pacifica. Because of the incredible expense of maintaining the tracks after repeated collapes into the ocean below, it eventually had to be abandoned.
One of the stations is still available to enjoy; Vallemar is a family-owned restaurant reminiscent of the TV show Cheers – where everyone knows your name. And the food is great. They also have many photos and a model-sized version of the station and train.
Pacifica has a lively arts and culture community. Some of the details can be found at the City of Pacifica website.
