Well, there is no Bay Meadows real estate yet. They’ve winterized the area – and thank goodness because this winter has already been wicked.
Then comes the infrastructure: grading, site preparation, roadway, sidewalks, trees and lights. That’s going to go on throughout this year.
What About Bay Meadows Houses?
Well…that’ll be determined by the developer. Construction is expected to begin 2011
Development General Info
The Bay Meadows project is a redevelopment of the 83.5-acre main track area of the Bay Meadows horse race track facility located just south of Highway 92 off and west of Highway 101.
Plan Approval Phase I
In 1997, the Bay Meadows Specific Plan was approved which allowed redevelopment of the barn and practice track area (commonly referred to as “Phase I”) with office, residential, and retail uses. This project has been fully built with the exception of three office buildings.
Plan Approval Phase II
In 2005, the Bay Meadows Specific Plan Amendment was approved for redevelopment of the main track area (commonly referred to as “Phase II”). The Specific Plan Amendment provides the framework for a transit oriented development (TOD) that provides compact high density office, retail, and residential development within a short walking distance of the existing Hillsdale CalTrain station.
The development will include approximately 800,000 square feet of office space, 1,066 residential units and 100,000 square feet of retail space. Construction of new buildings will likely not begin until at least 2011.
